Genesis HealthCare Honors Matt O'Connor as Compassionate Caregiver of the Year in its Connecticut Market

Annual recognition program is modeled after the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care’s national award for healthcare professionals

Woodbridge, CT - October, 17, 2022 - Genesis HealthCare, a national post-acute care provider, today announced that Matt O'Connor, a Senior Cook at The Willows in Woodbridge, CT, has been selected as the Compassionate Caregiver of the Year (CCOY) in its Connecticut market. Matt has been with the organization for over 20 years.

Modeled after the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care's national program, Genesis HealthCare sponsors an annual recognition program that provides a meaningful way for Genesis-affiliated centers to recognize and celebrate staff members who go above and beyond the standard of compassionate care. Staff, residents, and residents’ families are all invited to nominate a member of the team who demonstrates compassion in an exceptional way.

In his nomination, Matt was praised for going above and beyond for patients and residents at The Willows. He understands that every individual's needs are different. He always takes time to listen and accommodate resident and family choice. But he also takes the time to ensure the residents’ overall needs are met and will make sure the right person is involved to meet and address those needs. He goes above and beyond on a daily basis to provide great service, and residents and their  families love to work with him.

“For over two decades, Matt has led with a well-informed, responsible, and compassionate approach. He’s a valued part of employee culture at The Willows. Thank you Matt for your dedication and compassion,” states Melinda Monasterski, Market President for the Connecticut market.

Matt was selected as the market-level CCOY from among all staff in 12 Genesis-affiliated centers in Connecticut. He is now eligible for Genesis’ company-wide Compassionate Caregiver of the Year award, which will be selected from among its other market-level recipients later this month. Genesis will formally nominate its company-wide national CCOY recipient to the Schwartz Center to be considered for that organization’s 2023 National Compassionate Caregiver of the Year award.
