Dear Patients, Residents and Families
COVID-19 Second Booster Dose
The CDC recently released a recommendation for a second COVID-19 booster dose for certain persons. Specifically, a second mRNA booster dose could benefit people ages 50 years and older, as they are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. People ages 50 years and older may choose to receive a second booster dose, if it has been at least 4 months after the first booster. We recommend that appropriate residents receive their second booster dose. The COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) are available. Please let your physician or nurse know right away if you or your loved one would like to receive the second booster.

Ellen joined the Grand Islander team in February, 2021. She has been in Long Term Care for 25 years. She graduated from Rhode Island College with a degree in Social Work. After being a Director of Social Services for many years she went back to school to get her Nursing Home Administrator's license. She has spent most of her career working and running inner city Nursing homes. Her dream was always to work back on the island. Ellen feels that keeping an open mind and listening is one of the most important aspects of leading. "Often times its life's lessons that provide the best insight when assisting others." Despite her knowledge in Social Services nothing challenged her more than the learning curve when her father became ill. She started receiving calls from Nurses, Doctors and Social Workers, she was then placed in the shoes of many she has helped. Her experiences brought her a deeper appreciation of what residents and their family endure during illness. Ellen is a native 'Islander". She lives in Portsmouth with her husband Jim, their son Jack and two pugs Stella and Rocco.

Again she was acknowledged and earned a promotion to a Unit Manger on one of the two long term care units in the center. Tanya prides herself on being committed to quality care and customer excellence. Now with over 20 years of experience she has taken on the role as Director of Nursing.

Amazing Staff at the Grand Islander
"Because of the staff at Grand Islander, I'm doing so much better with my recovery than expected."
The staff there is the kindest, nicest group of people I ever met!
I would definitely return!
"The Grand Islander really knows how to treat Patients! The Therapist, Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants were all wonderful, especially Physical Therapist, Guion Williams! On a scale of 1 to 10, I give CNA, Jennie Crawford a 10! She deserves so much praise! I really enjoyed all the attention she gave me, she even did my hair! I have no complaints, in fact, I did not meet one person I did not like! I would definitely return to the Grand Islander if needed!
