Village Green of Bristol now offers a new Ventilator Unit designed for patients who need short-term or continuous ventilator treatment and rehabilitation. Our ventilator teams are led by Board Certified Pulmonologists who are focused on taking an aggressive, multi-disciplinary approach to ventilator rehabilitation. Our teams’ clinical expertise, including specially trained registered nurses, enable them to design an individualized care plan that fits within each patient’s respiratory, physical, occupational and speech therapy treatment program.

Janet Shahen
AdministratorJanet joined The Village Green of Bristol team in August 2021. She is a registered nurse and has a Masters in Business Administration. She obtained her long term care certification from UConn and has experience in hospital surgical division where she was a certified operating room nurse. She brings a focus on quality of care and services for residents and helps enhance the working environment for employees. When not at work she enjoys gardening, golfing and trips to Aruba.
Dr. Benjamin Yeboah
Medical DirectorDr. Benjamin Yeboah is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. He is an attending physician at Yale New Haven Hospital and has a private practice with offices in Hamden and Cheshire, Connecticut. As a Certified Medical Director with over 17 years of clinical experience, Dr. Yeboah is also a clinical instructor at the Yale School of Medicine. He obtained his BS in Medical Sciences and MD degree from the University of Ghana and completed his residency and Fellowship at Yale New Haven Hospital Saint Raphael Campus.
Amy Johannesen, RN-WCC
Director of NursingAmy joined the Village Green from a sister Genesis facility. Amy has been a nurse for over 20 years, steadily progressing in responsibility from charge nurse to nursing supervisor, to assistant director, to director of nurses. Amy has a special interest in wound care, and is wound certified. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, hiking with her dogs, and crafting.
Ashley Liese, APRN
Nurse PractitionerAshley obtained her BSN in nursing at Southern Connecticut State University in 2012. She started her nursing career at Yale New Haven Hospital and worked on a surgical step down unit from 2012-2018. During her career as a nurse, she pursued her Doctorate in Nursing Practice and graduated in 2018 with DNP with a particular focus in Adult-Gerontological. Ashley started her career as an APRN working for Cardiology Associates of Fairfield County for two years before joining Genesis in August of 2020.
Michelle DiCicicco
Admissions DirectorMichelle joined The Village Green of Bristol in July of 2014. She brings over 8 years of experience as the charge nurse and the nursing supervisor. The most important thing to Michelle is family. She enjoyed building relationships with the resident's family as charge nurse and is excited to continue building relationships as the Admissions Director. Out of work Michelle enjoys spending time with her children, dogs and teaching dance.
Anne Tsiongas
Director of RehabilitationAnne is a graduate of Northeastern University and has been a physical therapist for the past 26 years. Anne joined the Village Green team in 2019. She has worked in sports medicine and geriatrics and has been a director of rehab for the past 15 years. She is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and is committed to providing compassionate care to the patients achieve their goals.
Making great strides
George R. came to VGOB on a nocturnal ventilator and the goal was for him to go home with his wife. Through the hard work of his wife, Respiratory therapy, Pulmonologist, and Physical Therapy we helped the patient achieve his goal. George was successfully weaned off the ventilator and went home with a trach and oxygen.
9 months to success
Matt G. came to VGOB with a trach and no additional oxygen. Through the hard work of his fiancée, Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonologist and Speech we helped him to have his trach capped and then removed within 9 months.
Back home, walking & talking
Mr. Vasquez, who game to VGOB on a ventilator 24/7 with a history of Guille Barre but had a goal to go home to his wife and children. Through the determination of Felipe and the help of Respiratory Therapy, Pulmonologist, Speech Therapy, and Physical Therapy, he started weaning off the ventilator for hours at a time, and working on leg and arm strength. After 9 months, Felipe was decannulated and off oxygen; sitting in a wheelchair pushing himself. He transferred to a facility closer to his home 6 months later and today is at home with his family walking and talking.
Well on her way!
After 4 consecutive hospitalizations, Dawn required intubation and support from a ventilator to breathe. She was transitioned to Village Green for pulmonary rehab and vent reduction. She was unable to speak due to the tracheostomy and worked diligently with RT and ST to use a passy muir valve with close monitoring of her vitals. Dawn currently has successfully weaned from the vent and is able to use the trach cap for 6 hrs/day. She is now able to speak normally with good breath control. In addition, she is able to negotiate a full flight of stairs and is independent in her ADL's and ambulation. She is well on her way of becoming decannulated and returning home to her family.

I can't say enough about the rehabilitation program here! They are outstanding. Everyone here has been so kind. The nurses and CNAs took really good care of me. I can't thank you all enough.
