COVID-19 Second Booster Dose
The CDC recently released a recommendation for a second COVID-19 booster dose for certain persons. Specifically, a second mRNA booster dose could benefit people ages 50 years and older, as they are at increased risk for severe COVID-19. People ages 50 years and older may choose to receive a second booster dose, if it has been at least 4 months after the first booster. We recommend that appropriate residents receive their second booster dose. The COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer or Moderna) are available. Please let your physician or nurse know right away if you or your loved one would like to receive the second booster.

Kyle Kubota, MSCCC-SLP
Director of RehabilitationI attended Oneonta State for 4 years where I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Sciences and Communication. In August of 1990, I completed graduate school at Syracuse University where I received a Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. During my time at SU, I had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings including rehab hospitals, group homes, schools and the outpatient clinic. At the time I was completing my outpatient clinic practicum, I realized my passion for working with individuals who had neurological impairments.
For the majority of my career, I have worked in skilled nursing and rehabilitation communities. I began as a Clinical Fellow and have worked as an SLP, CF mentor, director of rehabilitation, regional rehab director and regional director of education and development. While working in the LTC industry, I realized my second passion; working with individuals living with dementia. Advocating for those most vulnerable we serve is most important to me. My career path organically forked to a new adventure working as a dementia care specialist where I had the opportunity to specialize in an area that brings me so much joy. During my time working with DCS, I shared my knowledge through facilitation of training programs across the US and Canada. I have trained in the areas of Activities, ADLs, and Behaviors as well as a Dementia Capable Care Certification train the trainer course.
On March 1, 2021, I joined the Genesis Rehab team at Academy Manor as Director of Rehabilitation. My hope is to facilitate the growth of our long-term programming to meet the challenging needs of individuals in our LTC environment as we transition to a post COVID world as well as provide exceptional care to our STR community. Additionally, I would love to share my passion of working with individuals living with dementia to enhance how we provide care in a more person-centered manner.
Personal interests include skiing, reading, gardening, and card crafting. I am a proud mom to a son, Kelsey who is a graduate of Clarkson University, Environmental Engineering program where he wrapped up his career as a collegiate Alpine ski racer. My husband Koji is from Japan.

Laurel Kilmain, CTRS
Dementia Program DirectorLaurel has natural love for the older adult population. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Recreational Management and Policy Laure moved down to the Boston area and became a Recreational Therapist. For almost a decade she worked with a diverse population of older adults helping to maintain their independence while also finding joy and purpose in life among their new aging circumstances. It was during this time that her passion for learning about dementia grew. Laurel explored the Assessed Living world a bit before diving into Skilled Nursing; all the while addressing the needs of both the residents with dementia and their family members. In her free time Laurel enjoys the ocean, hiking and being with her family.
