As communities start to loosen COVID-19 restrictions, we wanted to share an update on visitation guidelines. Genesis-affiliated centers are currently offering indoor visitation for all residents (regardless of vaccination status), with the exception of the three scenarios listed below. CMS, the federal agency that regulates nursing centers, has updated its visitation guidance due to high resident vaccination rates and a drop in COVID-19 cases around the country. read more

John CouryCenter Executive Director
John has been the Center Executive Director since February of 2018. John graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from John Carroll University, in Ohio, and began employment as a CNA within his family’s healthcare organization in Northeast Ohio-Sovereign Healthcare. John has been a licensed nursing home administrator since 2003 and has held licenses in both Ohio and Arizona. He received a LPN license in 2007. He has a proud track record of quality care while having deficiency free surveys in 2007, 2013, 2015, and 2016. John has been successful in achieving 5-Star status in each one of the Centers he has directed. In the nine months of employment at Mesa Christian, the center has gone from 3 stars to 4 stars thus far. He resides in Mesa with his wife and three children and in his spare time he enjoys spending quality time with his family.
Scott AndermanCenter Nurse Executive
Born and raised just outside Philadelphia PA, Scott began his nursing career as a new graduate with Genesis Healthcare at Brandywine Hall. He eventually left this position only to return 14 years later as a Center Nurse Executive (DON) for Mesa Christian Health and Rehabilitation in Mesa, AZ. Penn State and Drexel University educated, Scott’s first internship focused on dolphin rehabilitation therapy in the Gulf of Mexico, eventually working with the socially and economically disadvantaged populations of the poorest neighborhoods in Philly. Throughout the years, Scott acquired a variety of clinical skills in disciplines such as med-surg, pediatric, geriatric, cardiac, and skilled nursing, as well as social services, community health, and care coordination. Scott blends together his unique experiences from managing Population Health to building Clinical Education programs, uniting specialties as the Director of Operations for a Clinically Integrated Network, and continuing to lead quality assurance and performance improvement methodologies. He prides himself on developing creative, integrated, and effective teams capable of anything they put their mind to. He continues to seek new challenges each day, building upon our achievements and making sure to take every lesson available. His primary objective is to create a safe, fun, and happy life for those that truly depend on him. He enjoys wood-working, nutrition, and any outdoor activities with his beautiful family of 4 plus 3 dogs when not at the office.

Laura JacoboDirector of Marketing & Admissions
Laura Jacobo has been with Genesis Mesa Christian Center for 1 year; she began her career in healthcare in 2013, and developed a love for long-term care, dedicated to helping patients and their families during this difficult time in their lives.
Rich MarshDirector of Rehabilitation
Rich has been a PTA for 21 years and a Rehab Director for 19 of those years. With over 10 years of management experience outside of healthcare as a general manager for a manufacturing company, he got into the therapy world after suffering a work related injury and undergoing outpatient therapy for 6 weeks. Rich then volunteered at a SNF in Stillwater, Minnesota for 2 years and decided to pursue his PTA. His passion is geriatric therapy. He is originally from England but has lived in Arizona since 1972. When he is not at work, you can find him on the golf course!
The Challenge: Ted was admitted to Valleywise Medical chronic vertigo, anxiety, asthma, and previous hospitalization for Pneumonia and liver ascites. Prior to patient hospital, He was independent and living independently. During his hospital
stay patient Pt is very weak and unable to complete ADLs and mobility on his own.
The Treatment: Ted came to us from the hospital with a diagnosis of Pneumonia and liver ascites, Ted has recently suffered a 25# weight loss and was also experiencing from generalized weakness. Upon his therapy evaluations he required Contact
Guard Assist for sit><stand transfers, CGA for ambulation 50-75' with a front wheeled walker, his standing tolerance was no more than 1 minute. He required Minimal assist for grooming and hygiene, Moderate assist for bathing and Lower body dressing. Thru his hard work and determination in combination with the therapy staff, medical management and dietary, Ted
was able to achieve his Long Term Goals in a very short period of time. At discharge, Ted was Independent in ALL functional mobility, ted was ambulating at community level distances, 3000'+, various even/uneven surfaces without an assistive Device. His greatest pleasure was being able to take a shower all by himself and shave off weeks of unwanted facial hair.
The Outcome: At time of discharge, Ted has been with us for a week, during his stay with us he had made a lot of progress, when he admitted into our facility walking 50-75' with a front wheeled walker, his standing tolerance was no more than 1 minute. He would like to thank our therapy team for helping and providing support during her journey, He is now independent with transfers and able to ambulate independently. Ted was ambulating at community level distances, 3000'+, various even/uneven surfaces without an assistive Device. During ted stay with us he would like to say” Thank you Mesa Christian for all the hard work and dedication” This stay here as been the best experience and also very grateful for the nursing and therapy staff.
