Treatments for Bladder Cancer
While standards have been established for the treatment of virtually all cancers, doctors will often modify them for their individual patients. These modifications are based on many factors, including the patient’s age, general health, presence of other diseases, desired results, and the specific characteristics of the cancer. The treatments described here represent the standard therapeutic approaches. Your doctor may not strictly adhere to them.
Treatment of bladder cancer aims to remove as much of the bladder tumor as possible, preserve the urinary bladder to the safest degree possible, avoid recurrence of cancer, and prevent the spread of cancer to other areas. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for bladder cancer, but
also play a role in controlling the disease and preventing the spread to other parts of the body.
