Hockey’s Devils Grant Victoria Commons’ Resident Wish

Acts of generosity and kindness can get lost in the shuffle of a hectic and hurried world where selfishness and boorish behavior seem to garner the most attention.

To the contrary, there are those heartwarming stories of gracious generosity and sincere expressions of kindness. This fall Victoria Commons Assisted Living facility resident Pat Wood had the awesome chance to realize a wish. The lifelong bachelor wasn’t much of a sports guy at Clifton High School. As an adult he enjoyed some river rafting in Colorado.

The Passaic native and career road construction worker is a devout fan of the New Jersey Devils. His dream was to attend a Devils’ game. Wood has followed the National Hockey League franchise since it relocated to the northern half of the Garden State in 1982.

Victoria Commons Recreation Director Carol Valentine reached out to the Devils’ organization about Wood’s wish in October. Steve Rosone, the team’s fan development coordinator, made it happen by providing Wood, Valentine and two Commons’ staff members with tickets to a Jan. 7 game at Prudential Center.
