Genesis HealthCare Senior Living Communities Successfully Improving Quality Care
3/12/2014 12:00:00 AM

Today, Genesis HealthCare praised a select group of its senior living communities for their achievement in reaching national quality goals as set by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL). Four Genesis senior living communities met or exceeded one of the goals of NCAL’s Quality Initiative, which focuses on reducing hospital readmissions, nursing staff turnover and antipsychotic medications, as well as increasing customer satisfaction. These communities are:

Heritage at Clara Barton, Edison, New Jersey

Partridge House, Hampton, New Hampshire

Rose View Court, Williamsport, PA

Victoria Commons, North Cape, New Jersey

“Genesis remains committed to providing the highest quality care to our residents, and these communities have exemplified this commitment,” said Chief Executive Officer George V. Hager, Jr. “Reaching national goals ahead of deadline is no small feat. The dedicated team members at these four communities are setting an example for other Genesis communities and the rest of the country.”

Announced in February 2012, the NCAL Quality Initiative aims to further improve the lives of individuals receiving care in assisted living communities by setting specific goals in four, key areas of quality of care:

·         safely reduce hospital readmissions by 15 percent by March 2015;

  • increase staff stability by keeping nursing staff turnover rates below 30 percent by March 2015;
  • increase customer satisfaction by having 90 percent of residents and families willing to recommend their community to others by March 2015; and
  • safely reduce the off-label use of antipsychotics by 15 percent by the end of 2013.

Even with national deadlines yet to be reached, these four Genesis communities have already met one or more of the goals and strive to meet all four goals by NCAL’s deadline.

The four Genesis centers which achieved the goals of the Quality Initiative were identified through NCAL’s Quality Initiative Recognition Program. Member communities had to submit staff turnover data and customer satisfaction results to NCAL, as well as join the National Patient Safety Organization for Assisted Living, which will track hospital readmissions and antipsychotic use in assisted living communities. Genesis HealthCare achievers, as well as other achievers from across the country, were honored February 10-12 at AHCA/NCAL’s 2014 Quality Symposium in New Orleans, La.
