Resident of the Month - April 2013
4/15/2013 12:00:00 AM

Mary Shelley

Congratulations to Mary Shelley for being chosen as Aprils Resident of the Month!  Even though she has a famous name, in Mary's family, it's her children and great grandchildren who carry the claims to fame. Born in 1924, Mary has been a lifelong resident of Groton, spending 15years at Pfizer as a supply clerk while raising her 2 children.  In her spare time, Mary and her husband belonged to the Groton Senior Center's Dancing group.  Whether it was tap, jazz, ballroom, or square dancing, you could always expect Mary to be right in the center of the action!

One thing you can always count on in retirement halls is Mary walking her daily laps.  Bingo with her friend Mickie and exercise in the morning, are also on her list of favorite activities.

Recently Mary shared with the residents a video of her great granddaughter, Christin Greene, 11 years old, singing the National Anthem at the New York Mets vs. Florida Marlins game.  Christin was chosen from all other auditions at various ages.  Personally, as someone lucky enough to view it with her, I was in awe of her amazing performance.

However, Kristin isn't the only celebrity in the family, Mary's daughter, Donna Greene is a published book author.  Mary's daughter was recently in town at the Groton Senior Center to autograph her book and meet some of her fans.  It's no wonder Mary's face lights up whenever she talks about her family.

"I really enjoy living here at the Regency" says Mary.  "Every member of the staff is so wonderful and compassionate to all of our needs.  I feel safe and well cared for. It really is a terrific place to live".
