Grand Islander Now Offering Advanced Capabilities in Cardiac Management
9/10/2013 12:00:00 AM

Middletown, RI – Grand Islander, a Genesis Health Care SM skilled nursing facility, is proud to announce the addition of its new Cardiac Management Program led by consulting cardiologists Dr. Thomas Drew, Dr. Edward Keating both of Lifespan’s Cardiovascular Institute and Medical Director Dr. Sunil Verma with Genesis Physician Services.

Grand Islander now offers advanced capabilities for patients with a variety of cardiac diagnoses. Patients diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) or patients recovering from Cardiothoracic Surgery, Coronary Angioplasty and Stenting, Myocardial Infarction, Cardiac Arrhythmias and more will benefit from this new level of post-hospital care.

The goal of the program is to provide patients with successful disease management along with the education and support required to lead a healthy lifestyle when they return home. Cardiac services were developed in collaboration with local cardiologists, referring physicians and hospitals. Special service components of the program include:

  • Patient rounds led by consulting cardiologists
  • Clinical staff specially trained in cardiac care
  • Specialized cardiac diets and nutrition management
  • Comprehensive patient/family education
  • Patient care integration with rehabilitation therapists
  • Quantifiable outcomes measures
  • Home discharge planning support, including a 30-day journal for patients to document their recovery

“Cardiac Management at Grand Islander allows patients to receive the specialized care they need in a focused setting,” explained Dr. Sunil Verma, Medical Director. “The time spent in cardiac management allows the patient to get well enough to avoid a relapse and a subsequent re-hospitalization. Weekly, patients will have the opportunity to be seen by Cardiologist to ensure the best possible outcome and a successful discharge home.”

Grand Islander also offers Rehabilitation Therapy, Transitional, Short Stay and Long Term Care. For more information about Grand Islander’s new Cardiac Management Program or to obtain a personalized tour of the facility, please contact Director of Admissions, Michele Thurman at (401) 849-7100.
