Bedford Hills Center Dedicates Veterans Honor Wall
8/29/2014 12:00:00 AM

Bedford Hills Center, a 147-bed Genesis HealthCare skilled nursing center located at 30 Colby Court in Bedford, New Hampshire, today unveiled an Honor Wall and held a dedication ceremony to honor all the military veterans currently being cared for at the center and the center staff members who have served in the military.  Governor Maggie Hassan and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen attended the event and delivered remarks.

The Honor Wall features photographs of all of the veterans in Bedford Hills Center – both patients and residents and staff members.  U.S. Army Veteran Ken “HD” Higgs volunteered his time to photograph the veterans featured on the wall.  In addition, the Nam Knights Granite State Chapter helped organize the support groups at the center and continues to be a source of valuable information and advocacy for the residents.

The unveiling of the Honor Wall and dedication ceremony was followed by small celebration where Veterans celebrated with political leaders, family, friends and staff members.

“We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the men and women who have served our country in uniform, and the Bedford Hills Center delivers remarkable care to our veterans day in and day out,” Senator Shaheen said. “The new ‘Honor Wall’ is a beautiful way to celebrate the veterans of the Bedford Hills Center and I was humbled to participate in the dedication recognizing our veterans.”

“We are so proud and appreciative of the tremendous dedication and spirit of our Veterans here at Bedford Hills Center,” shared Administrator David Ross.  “Creating an Honor Wall is our way of thanking the Veterans for the impressive gift they have given to all Americans.  In addition, we are honored to have had Governor Hassan and Senator Shaheen share this important day with us.”

Dr. Samuel Goldman, medical director for Bedford Hills Center, shared his thoughts on the importance of the Honor Wall, “Until now, the only time you really learned about a person’s history of military service was by reading it in the obituary.  It's wonderful to see folks getting recognized for their service while they are here to enjoy it.”
